TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) — If you're hungry for a good deal… Tybee has just the feast for you!
Tybee Island's restaurant scene is feeling the heat this winter – but not in the kitchen. After a snowstorm shut down the island for nearly a week, local businesses have been struggling during an already slow season. Now – they are counting on Restaurant Week to bring much-needed customers and a boost in sales
It is the off-season on Tybee, and local restaurants are hungry for business. This comes after not just the recent snowstorm, but all the storms from the past few months in the Coastal Empire.
Locals and visitors can enjoy exclusive menus, chef's specials, and great deals from some of Tybee's favorite eateries. This year there are around 10 participating restaurants across the Island.
Tybee officials are pairing with Eat It & Like It for the event.
This helps restaurants during a slower time in the season. Past participating restaurants shared that they would estimate that Restaurant Week boosts the number of customers by around 25%.
"Restaurant week is definitely coming at a good time it is our slower season of the year, and it brings just some new faces out to the island," shared Maggie Wright, the Tybee Island Main Street Coordinator.
One of the participating businesses where they anticipate Restaurant Week to bring in a strong boost for their business is the North Beach Bar and Grill. North Beach Bar and Grill has participated every year that this event has been offered.
"This winter here on Tybee has been somewhat challenging. The weather – not only the snowstorm – but leading up to the winter up to the winter months you know we had lots of storms. Lots of rain. So, it's been a challenge. Restaurant week in February, we are hoping that the weather it changes for the better, and it is a great kickoff for the season," said George Spriggs, the owner of North Beach Bar and Grill.
Running from February 17th to February 28th, the event will run for 11 days.
Officials are continuing last year's big change of moving Restaurant Week from January into February. This is because February is when most Island restaurants begin to open back up – whereas in January many of them are not open yet.
