BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) — The Woods Memorial Bridge will be closed Sunday night into Monday morning for maintenance, according to officials.
The closure will start at 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, and last until 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18. Officials said crews will be installing a new set of gates to block traffic when the bridge opens for boats.
"The previous gates were prone to electrical issues that would close the bridge unexpectedly, causing traffic backups," the City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department said. They said they were relaying that information for the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT).
The closure could cause traffic backups on Lady's Island Drive and Ribaut Road, so expect delays and avoid the area if possible. Residents can use the McTeer Bridge in Port Royal to go on and off Lady’s Island, officials said.
