SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The Veterans Council of Chatham County is gearing up for Veterans Day on Nov. 11 with a weeklong schedule of events.
Chairman Joe Higgins announced the following program for this year's Veterans Week:
- Friday, Nov. 1 at 9 a.m. - Chatham County Commission appearance Veteran of the Year Edward Gizara and Grand Marshal Mike Brady.
- Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. - Flags over Broughton installation. Over 40 American casket flags donated by families of veterans will be installed from Jefferson Street to Abercorn Street.
- Friday, Nov. 8 - Veterans Day Gala with a 6 p.m. cocktail reception and the 7 p.m. program at the American Legion Post 184 (3003 Rowland Ave.).
Sunday, Nov. 10
- 10:30 a.m. WWI Remembrance ceremony at WWI Monument in Daffin Park with Guest speaker French Army Brigadier General Lionel Meny.
- 6 p.m. Vietnam Veterans Ceremony at Emmitt Park (Bay Street/Habersham Street).
- Monday, Nov. 11 - 78th Veterans Day Parade beginning at 10 a.m. with a step-off at Abercorn and Gwinnett streets.
If you can't attend the Veterans Day Parade in person, WSAV will broadcast the event on-air and online at wsav.com.
Outside of Veterans Week, the council encourages active or inactive veterans to attend their meetings held on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Post 184 (3003 Rowland Ave.) in Thunderbolt.
