Vidalia Walmart evacuated due to bomb threat

VIDALIA, Ga. (WSAV) - A Walmart in Vidalia was evacuated earlier today due to a possible bomb threat.

At approximately 1:43 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, the Vidalia Police Department (VPD) investigated a reported bomb threat at 3109 E First Street, Vidalia (Walmart). Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene to secure the area and ensure public safety. The business was evacuated as a precautionary measure.

The Vidalia Police Department, Toombs County Sheriff's Office and Walmart staff conducted a thorough search of the premises. During the search, an item of concern was located within the store.

Due to the discovery, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation - Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) was requested. A certified bomb technician was able to deem the item and location safe. The store was turned back over to the employees without further incident.
