SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Two bald eagles crash landed in Savannah on Thursday.
A WSAV staff member said they heard a loud snapping noise while outside near Walden at Chatham Center around 6 p.m. They thought it was a tree limb before spotting their white heads.
It appears that the two eagles could have been fighting and locked talons before diving towards the ground. This is called "cartwheeling."
Typically, bald eagles will release their grasp on each other right before hitting the ground and continue to fight while "cartwheeling." It's can also be a mating ritual and normal behavior for courtship.
The WSAV staff member called the non-emergency number and said that an officer is currently at the apartments waiting back for a representative of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
We have reached out to DNR for more information on the status of the eagles. If more information becomes available, we will update.
