Walterboro man found guilty in fatal pool hall shooting

WALTERBORO, S.C. (WSAV) — A Walterboro man was sentenced to 45 years in prison for a 2022 murder on Friday.

Shannon Lamont Kinard, 41, of Crystal Lane was found guilty in the shooting death of Dexter Diondre Lynah Jr., 23.

Kinard opened fire in the Sure Shots pool hall and bar on July 30, 2022, hitting Lynah four times, the 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office said.

"The video shows an injured Lynah scrambling out of a backdoor with Kinard firing his gun and following Lynah to an outside courtyard," a spokesperson for the solicitor's office said in a statement. "Lynah, with a broken femur, stumbles and falls on the ground, raising his hand in total surrender. With a gun already drawn, Kinard stands over him and pulls the trigger, shooting him again."

After the shooting, Kinard left the pool hall in a different vehicle. Authorities were able to find the gun used near a fence line by the pool hall with the help of a police K9, an official said.

Alongside the murder conviction, a Colleton County jury found Kinard guilty of using a vehicle without permission with the intent to deprive and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He received five years for the gun charge and three years for stealing the vehicle.

All sentences are to be served concurrently.

“The defendant used deadly violence in a brazen manner with no regard to anyone’s safety and then stalked the victim like prey before shooting him in the back,” Tameaka Legette of the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, who prosecuted the case, said. “A just and appropriate conviction and sentence were given today. Colleton County is safer with this person behind bars.”
